Measure from the house to the position of the inside edge of the started board, and mark each end of the header at this distance. Where this line falls will depend on whether and how much you want it to overhang the header. Snap a chalk line across the marks on the rim joists. Check to make sure this line is parallel to the house. Begin decking installation with boards parallel to the house. Lay out the decking boards loosely on the deck so they're within reach. Plan staggered joints ahead, prearranging the boards and installing cleats on both sides of the joists where necessary. Align the inside edge of the started board with the chalk line and face-nail or screw fasteners centred on the joists. Predrill holes for the fastener if recommended by the manufacturer.
On a floor, these thin, fragile slices of ceramic require some special care and preparation. Otherwise, they won't survive the parade of feet through an entry or the sudden spills in a bathroom or kitchen, where floors go from bone dry to sopping wet faster than you can say "puddle."
