During the commissioning of the fence, John Gara, the RDB CEO, said that the park is national asset that must be protected by everybody. He, however, noted that having a population live harmoniously, alongside the animals has not been easy.
"Animals go astray and cause havoc in communities...People lost lives and crops were destroyed. The electric fence offers a solution. People, however, have to be careful with the dangerous fence,' he said.
"The money we gave the affected families will help them to buy seeds, to plant with surety that crops will not be destroyed by animals after the fencing."

Page wire fencing is a permanent fencing type, available in a wide range of fence heights and horizontal spacing, usually constructed on the farm/field perimeters to control livestock, protect crops and enclose pastures; the nine-strand, 1,200 mm (48 in.) high fence is very popular. The ideal fence height and spacing will depend upon the type of livestock to be excluded. Often a single strand of barbed wire is installed on the posts above the page wire fencing, especially where animals, i.e., horses, tend to reach over the fence. Anchor, corner and stretch posts must be wood, but line posts may be wood and/or steel. Use either a long-lasting wood post such as cedar or a pressure-treated post for maximum life. Post spacings are usually 5 m (16.5 ft). Post lengths will depend upon the choice of page wire fencing height; normally a 2.4 m (8 ft) long post with approximately 1.5 m (5 ft) of post above ground is required to exclude cattle and horses. Page wire fencing is very visible to the animals being excluded. This fencing system is normally more costly to construct than other types, due to higher costs for fencing materials and labour.
Use common sense, don't skimp on materials or cut corners during construction. Allot an adequate amount of time to carefully lay out the fence lines. Confirm property lines to avoid placement errors that could anger neighbors.
When laying out the fence's path, avoid rough terrain, stony areas and steep climbs. Note the property's water sources in pasturing fields, as it may be possible to use a single water source in more than one pasture.
Lanes connect livestock buildings, working facilities and pastures with water. A pasture that ties fields together also could be a passageway.
Lay out the lane so it follows a terrace or natural ridge to prevent gullies. It is best if the lane crosses a well-drained site. If the land is soggy, redirect the livestock and equipment by relocating temporary fencing from time-to-time.
The corner of each field closest to farm buildings is the best place to site lanes. If fields are on opposite sides of a road, place the gates across from each other so animals can go directly across. Use sturdy materials, especially for the hardware & fencing gates, so the animals do not break free or injure themselves and people can easily get in and out. wood plastic composite price
