This abundant agricultural waste has all of the properties one could ever expect of some of the best insulating materials. Recent ASTM testing conducted reveals that rice hulls do not flame or smolder very easily.
They are highly resistant to moisture penetration and fungal decomposition and they do not transfer heat very well. They do not smell or emit gases and they are not corrosive with respect to aluminum, copper or steel. In their raw and unprocessed state, rice hulls constitute a Class A or Class I insulation.

Yes, the main raw material of UPM ProFi is paper and plastic which falls as surplus in self-adhesive label production and which would otherwise be disposed of in landfill or incineration. Like all exterior building materials UPM ProFi Deck requires maintenance and cleaning to some extent. Periodic cleaning is recommended to remove surface dirt, which can accumulate on the surface. This will also prevent the build-up of pollen and debris that can cause mold and mildew growth. Use warm water with a conventional deck cleaner, brush and/or jet wash for periodic cleaning (see below).
Remove spills and debris promptly. In most cases brushing with warm water or water with a mild detergent is sufficient. Power pressure washing at a pressure not exceeding 100 bar and the jet nozzle not applied closer than 30 cm will improve the result.
For more intense cleaning (e.g. removing more stubborn stains on the deck surface) jet wash is recommended, followed by brushing with an appropriately diluted solution of a traditional deck cleaner with high pH value (pH 8 - 13). Note the application time of the cleaner (usually 5-10 minutes). Then brush the surface of the deck and rinse thoroughly.

Living in California I can attest this is one durable fence. It has handled heavy rain and cool temps to constant sunshine without splits, fractures or even splinters. We are going to purchase smaller height fencing for our front yard. Our HOA has had no problem so far with it as we attached it to the metal rails with plastic coated speaker wire--no rust and no fuss. It holds up well without damage to the existing fence.
